July 26th, 2011Event UpdateAn elegant term for ‘secondhand clothing’ perhaps but, true vintage wearers seek out classics. One of our new swishers was telling ladies all about her vintage Dior dress that she will be wearing at a ball. Suddenly, I detect some interest from all those non-vintagers!
Pre-1920′s clothing will be classified as antique, the 20′s to the 80′s is true vintage era. It has become a buzz word of late perhaps like the word ‘swish’. Vintage is being written on signage to encourage customers to the shop or market stall. Since scheduling in our first vintage swish for the 1st August 2011 at Caistor Hall I seem to keep hearing & seeing the V-word! It is true that once you think something isn’t popular in your eyes suddenly it becomes so because you are now aware of it, hence why marketing can be so clever.
What Val and I love about adding a spot of vintage to swishing is adding to it’s treasure trove of items that we welcome at every event – let us all be open-minded and consider adding some vintage clothing into our wardrobes.

May 2nd, 2011Event UpdateThis blog was inspired by a recent sunny day where within seconds I clocked one person in shorts & t-shirt, another in trousers & shirt and another in full suit with blazer and coat with boots. I know that some of us feel temperature differently but when it is clearly a warm day is it that we just need time to shift a winter habit of layers or do some of us just not enjoy dressing summery, while others embrace the weather all too much! (yes men without t-shirts and women in buttock skimming hot pants).
For Val & I summertime sends one clear fashion message year after year, WHITE LINEN TROUSERS, HURRAY! This classic and timeless piece we team with summery dresses and a variety of tops. It makes us feel cool (in temperature) and somewhat relaxed and smart simultaneously.
There is an extra statement I yell at high octane ‘IT’S OFFICIAL WE CAN NOW WEAR FLIP FLOPS!’ (Remember, I wear them all year round:) and this year I am considering the more expensive variety as the cheap £2 ones are not flattering and don’t last. I figure now it’s an investment in my footwear and I definitely get my wear out of every pair! On that note the same goes for linen trousers, where is my logic two of the most worn items in my wardrobe I invest less money on, crazy!
So, what’s out there on the high street for summertime? Maxi-dresses are in force along with jumpsuits and waterfall effect tops. Lot’s of colour – illuminous at times so, indulge in it, break the winter blues and head for early summertime hues, enjoy x
